Sentosa Golf Club

SENTOSA Golf Club, home to Asia's richest National Championship, the Barclays Singapore Open, holds two of the most beautiful Championship layouts you are likely to find anywhere in the world. Sentosa is actually the Malay word for ‘peace and tranquillity' and anyone who has visited this golf club will understand why the name was chosen as the Serapong and Tanjong courses offer golf in the most serene yet spectacular of settings.

The Serapong Course first opened in 1982 but was redeveloped last year by the Bates Golf Design Group to enhance the experience of competitors at the Barclays Singapore Open. It now truly stands up next any Championship course in the world. The par-72 track stands at 6,349 metres and utilises the thick jungle surrounding it, bringing the trees into play on many of the holes. The course is framed by two huge lakes and the inner Singapore harbour, while the dramatic backdrop of the city skyline adds to the visual impact of the place. The signature 13th is among the most memorable holes you will play - a beautiful, sweeping 498 metre par-5 which takes you round the side of the biggest of the two lakes.

Opened in 1972, the Tanjong Course - a collaboration between designer Max Wexler and course architect Chris Pitman, and originally designed by Frank Pennick - has won a string of awards and quite rightly so. Since it first opened, the course has had millions pumped into it for redevelopment and the sumptuousness of the surroundings hits you as soon as you get out there.

Designed for championship play from the blue tees (6,014m), the par-72 layout features natural hazards, freshwater lakes, towering trees, mounds and bunkers as well as undulating fairways with narrow landing areas. Set against the backdrop of the shimmering and alluring South China Sea, visitors to the Tanjong Course are rarely in a hurry to leave.
